Designed for 3-season use, the Salida is a great all-around lightweight backpacking tent. With over 10ft2 of vestibule space and a spacious interior this tent is guaranteed to offer a comfortable backcountry escape.Winner of the 2011 Backpacker Magazine Editor's Choice Award, the Kelty Salida 2 offers great value in a basic ultralight backpacking tent. This two-person, three-season tent's weatherproof protection was tested by Backpacker gear testers in the soggy and windy conditions of the Pacific Northwest, where it provided a comfortable and dry backcountry escape. The Salida 2 features a minimalist design with one side door, a 30.5 square foot interior, and a ten square foot vestibule--its lack of frills keeps the weight, and the price, down.

The Salida 2 is well-ventilated and sturdy, thanks to mesh wall panels and a solid two-pole support system. The 68 denier ripstop nylon floor is durable, tough, and resists rips and abrasion, while the double-wall dome fly keeps campers dry no matter how wet the weather.

Not quite as light as it sounds
This seems like a great little tent, taking it out for the first time next week, but I'm confident that it will work well from the reviews. Only down side is that it is only 3 lbs 12 ozs WITHOUT the rain fly, which is a somewhat critical element of a tent. With the rain fly, it is 4 lbs 8 ozs. Still not bad, but not as great as it seems.

Update: Took this tent on the John Muir Trail in the Sierras for 3 weeks. It stood up to the abuse of the trail quite well including rain and hale (good thing we took the rain fly.) We used the tent without a ground tarp to save on weight, which worked fine and we didn't have any water issues. We could have taken many fewer stakes to cut weight, unless you are going somewhere really windy, two stakes to hold out the fly is probably enough, we rarely used more.

Cold, wet, rainy, fun weekend
My new Salida 2 got a workout on the first use this weekend with the Boy Scouts. My Webelos son was a guest of the troop and slept in one of their tents, while my younger son & I slept in in the Salida. It rained all day & night Saturday, into Sunday morning. Not everyone else slept wet, but most did. The troop tents are complicated to set up correctly and, consequently, only two of their tents didn't let at least some rain in. The Salida 2 was a breeze to set up. Malcolm & I were comfortable & dry. There was not much room for our gear, but we didn't bring much. If two adults were using the tent there would be virtually no room for gear inside. The design of the rain fly is good, but not perfect. If the wind had been blowing the opposite direction rain may have entered from the back. The fly is pulled away from the tent and reaches the ground on the front & sides, but not on the back. I had to use some twine to pull the fly away from the rear of the tent, and there were several inches...

Best Bargain for 2011!
I've beeen looking for a 2 man backpacking 3 season tent under 4lbs for about 6 months.
I was actually narrowing it down to the Kelty Grand Mesa 2 (2010) and the Teton 2. Both are very similar in size and weight with the only difefrence being the door locations.
Mesa has door on small side while Teton has door on wide side. But Teton didnt have a complete fly.
Not only does the Salida have a wide door and large vestibule but it has more screen than the rest. A complete fly. Gear loft. Better color. Lighter. Need I say more.
I got it for $114 on ebay.
